Saving Custom Services as Standards

There are two ways to create standard services from custom services in a project.

  1. Save as Standard: On any service in the project editor, open the service’s context menu and choose Save as Standard (or Update Existing Standard if the service is already linked to a standard). This creates or updates a standard service in Settings and immediately places it in the Active state, available for use in future projects. Users with the Settings > Content > Professional Services permission at the Manage level see this option.
  2. Creating a Project Blueprint: Creating a Blueprint from an Approved Project that contains custom services automatically creates Settings versions of all services in the project and adds those services to the Blueprint. When the Blueprint is later used to create a new project, those standard services are added. These services are created directly in the Active state.

Service States in Settings

Every service in Settings has one of the following states.

Active — the service is published and available to add to projects from the project editor. This is the normal state for services created through the UI or saved from a project.

Pending — the service has been created but not yet approved. It is not available in the project editor. Services land in the Pending state when they are imported via CSV. The service must be approved before it can be used in a project.

Archived — the service has been removed from active use. It is not available in the project editor and is removed from any associated Blueprints. Archived services can be restored at any time.

Who Can See and Act on Pending Services

The Pending and Archived tabs in Settings are visible only to users with the Professional Services permission (manage level). Users with view or create permissions see only the Active tab.

Approving a Pending Service

To approve one or more pending services:

  1. Go to Settings > Content > Professional Services (or Managed Services).
  2. Select the Pending tab.
  3. Check the box next to each service you want to approve.
  4. Click the Approve icon in the toolbar (checkmark icon) and confirm.

The services move to the Active tab and become available in the project editor.

You can also approve a single service by opening it and using the approve action within the service detail view.

What Happens If You Try to Use an Unapproved Service

Pending services do not appear in the service picker in the project editor. Only Active services are returned when building a project. If a service you expect to find is missing from the project editor, check the Pending tab in Settings to see whether it is waiting for approval.

Unapproved Subservices

When a parent service is approved, its subservices are approved at the same time. A parent service with one or more pending subservices shows an indicator in the Settings list until all subservices have been approved.

Archiving and Restoring Services

To archive one or more active services, select them on the Active tab and click the Archive icon. Archived services are moved to the Archived tab and removed from any associated Blueprints.

To restore an archived service, select it on the Archived tab and click Un-Archive. The service returns to the Active tab.
