DocuSign Integration
The DocuSign integration lets you request signatures on project documents without leaving ScopeStack. Once connected, you can send generated documents as DocuSign envelopes directly from the project’s document page.
Note on sandbox vs. production: The direct DocuSign integration uses a cloud-based document generation process that may render fonts and design elements differently than Microsoft Word. Use a sandbox account to test the look and feel of your documents before switching to production.
Prerequisites
- DocuSign account (Developer/Sandbox or Production)
- ScopeStack Connected Apps permission at the Manage level
Setting Up in DocuSign
- In DocuSign, select My Apps and Keys from the top right menu.
- Click Add App and Integration Key.
- Name the app ScopeStack and click Create. You will be redirected to the app configuration page.
- Note the Integration Key — you will need it in ScopeStack.
- Confirm that User Application is set to Authorization Code Grant.
- Click + Add Secret Key and note the Secret Key value. Copy it now — it will not be displayed again.
- Click + Generate RSA under Service Integration to generate an RSA keypair. You do not need to use these values in the configuration, but DocuSign requires this step for security.
- Under Additional Settings, click + Add URI and enter:
https://app.scopestack.io/admin/docusign/callback - Click Save.
Configuring in ScopeStack
Navigate to Settings > Connected Apps and click the DocuSign tile.
On this screen: The Connected Apps page lists available integrations as tiles. Click the DocuSign tile to open its configuration panel.
On this screen: The DocuSign setup form includes fields for Account Type (Sandbox or Production), Integration Key, Secret Key, Prompt for User Signature, Internal Signature Placeholder, and External Signature Placeholder.
Fill in the form and click Save. You will be redirected to DocuSign to authorize the app. Click Allow Access on the DocuSign authorization screen to grant ScopeStack permission to act on your behalf.
After returning to ScopeStack, enable the integration using the toggle switch.
Configuration Options
Account Type
Set to Sandbox when using a DocuSign Developer account for testing. Switch to Production when you are ready to go live.
Integration Key
The Integration Key from your DocuSign app configuration page.
Secret Key
The Secret Key generated on the same page. Must be copied at creation time.
Prompt for User Signature
The message displayed in the DocuSign email sent to signers. A common value is “Please Sign the Document.”
Internal Signature Placeholder / External Signature Placeholder
These are the text strings placed in your Word document template that tell DocuSign where to insert each signature. Choose values that are unique and will not appear anywhere else in the document. Common values are **internal_signature_placeholder** and **external_signature_placeholder**.
Modify Your Document Template
You must add the placeholder text to your Word document template before sending for signature.
- Open your Word document template.
- Place the Internal Signature Placeholder text at the location where the internal signer’s signature should appear.
- Place the External Signature Placeholder text at the location where the customer’s signature should appear.
- To hide the placeholder text, select it, open the font color picker, and set the color to white (or match the document background). The placeholder will remain in the document but will not be visible to signers.
- Re-upload the modified template to your ScopeStack account.
Verifying the Connection
Once connected and enabled, open any approved project, navigate to the Documents tab, select a generated document, and choose the option to send for electronic signature via DocuSign.
ScopeStack will use the Primary Customer Contact as the external signer and the Primary Internal Contact as the internal signer. The Sales user is used if no Primary Internal Contact is specified.
After sending, an envelope will be created in DocuSign and the document will be delivered to the designated signers.
