Creating a Custom Service

You can create custom professional services to be used in projects in the Services section of a project.

Custom services are created directly in the service editor — not through the Add a Service dialog. To add a custom service, click Add a Service at the top of the page. In the dialog that appears, you’ll see options to add from a Survey, Blueprint, or Standard Services. If none of those apply, close the dialog and use the service editor directly to type in a new service name and fill in its fields from scratch.

On this screen: The Services tab shows the service editor table. At the bottom of the phase section, a button labeled + Add Custom Service is visible. Clicking it inserts a new empty row into the table. The row has green check and red X icons at the left edge (to save or cancel), followed by blank editable fields for Service Name, Service Category, QTY, Hours, and Resource. The row appears highlighted in yellow to indicate it is a custom service.

Defining a New Professional Service

In the service editor, you can set the name, service category, quantity, hours, and resource for your custom service. The phase is determined by which phase section you click + Add Custom Service under.

On this screen: The pending service row is fully editable. The Service Name column has a text input. Service Category is a dropdown populated with your account’s service categories. QTY and Hours are number inputs. Resource is a searchable dropdown listing the resources available on the project. All fields must be filled in before saving — clicking the green check icon validates the form and either saves the row or displays a validation error listing the missing fields.

To add a subservice, click the gear icon on the right of the service row and select Add Subservice. You can then set the name, quantity, unit hours, and resource for that subservice.

Auto-Save

The service editor saves your changes automatically as you work. There is no Save button to click — changes are captured as you make them, so you can move between fields and services without worrying about losing your work.

Viewing Your Custom Services

After your services are saved, you’ll be returned to the Services page where you can continue editing the name, service category, quantity, hours, and resource for any service you’ve added.

On this screen: The Services tab shows a table of services organized under phase headers. Custom services appear with a yellow background on their name field (and, where applicable, their category dropdown). Standard services have a white background. All editable fields — name, service category, quantity, hours, and resource — remain active for further editing. The drag handle and gear icon are present on each row for reordering and accessing the context menu.

Custom Services appear highlighted in yellow on the Services page so you can distinguish them from Standard services at a glance.

Permissions

The Custom Services (projects.custom_tasks) permission under Settings > Roles controls access:

  • Manage: Create and edit custom services on a project. Without this permission, the option to add a custom service is not available.
